An independent prayer

The other day as I was tucking Emma Claire in for her afternoon nap, I sang with her Jesus Loves Me and Oh How I Love Jesus and then I told her we were going to pray. She answered with "mommy, I want you to go out of here... I want to pray by myself." My first reaction was HURT - How dare she ask me to "get out of here" and then I realized that God is working in her heart to become more and more independent and seek God herself. I closed the door and tried to listen to hear her pray, but the white noise maker was too loud and I couldn't hear anything. She may not have even prayed out loud, she may have prayed in her head, b/c we have had some talks lately about how God is always with us and knows our heart and our thoughts. And if you have ever met Emma Claire, you know this is SO.EMMA.CLAIRE - Miss Independent - always has been. I just pray that God will continue to work in her life and keep the independent streaks working for good.

I too had an independent girl, who grew up very self sufficient and is now a great mother!!!

Prayer time (or as Davis says it "lets say dear God, mama) is one of my favorite times with my kids...i love their innocence!! May He continue to work with their little hearts so they may grow to be more like Him!!

I love that! I think she gets it and wants to have a special relationship with God! That's great! But dang those noise makers...
My dad always makes fun of me about them and asks if I'm going to keep them in their rooms until they're 30! ha!

Oh so sweet! That just melts my heart. MMC asks us every night to say our prayers, but she insists that WE say it and she doesn't know what to say. We're working on that!
