Coffee Table TRANSFORMED!!!!

Here is the before
It's a wonderful coffee table - it was just left out on my SIL's porch and had weathered.
After much work and stress, it's finally done!

I sanded it down (with an electric sander, thank you William!) and then I painted about 13 coats of a dark brown color. I then painted on the crackle paint, let it dry about 3 hours then went over with a lighter taupe color (the color you see under that black). It was finished. It looked FABULOUS - I loved it, especially the neutral tuscan colors - then all of a sudden about 10 rain drops fell out of the clear blue sky and left water spots on it. Talk about devastation!!!!! I tried to "fix" it with a paint brush, but it left horrible streaks. I didn't know what to do.

I had some black paint, so I painted another coat of the crackle paint (not having any idea what would happen with all those layers of different paints), I let that dry, then went over it with the black. Now, the black paint was a high gloss, which was really "sticky" and hard to work with, especially since you can only brush ONE coat in ONE direction over that crackle paint or it will lift the paint off and you have to work VERY quickly, b/c it starts to crack very fast!!!!!

It's not perfect, but it works great for our family and I know it will only be a matter of years before I will need to refinish it again - it gets lots of use!!!!!

Happy Weekend - it's going to be a beautiful one!!!!!

Great job! That 's the great thing about working on something that you got for FREE! You can just work and try things out...if it works, great...if not, you haven't lost alot. :) You should be very proud of yourself!
