A heart update and a funny (or gross)

On Friday I took all 3 children to Birmingham for Wilson's Cardiology appt. He had a VSD (small hole in his heart) when we was born and 2 doctors lately have heard it again. So we get downtown and in the parking deck and we're going around and around and around the deck trying to find a park, when all of a sudden Emma Claire starts screaming blody murder - I am frantically asking her what's wrong, calm down and tell mommy what's wrong!!! Then silence and then....

she threw up all on herself and her DVD player (which was in her lap). My sister was meeting us there to help out, but she was in the wrong parking deck, so I was on my own for a few minutes. Luckily I had a change of clothes, a tub of baby wipes, an empty Target bag and some hand sanitizer. I got Emma Claire - as carefully as I could - out of the car and stripped her down, right there on the 5th floor of the 6nd Ave parking deck. I wiped her down, put her very soiled clothes in the Target bag and put some clean clothes on her. I did my best to clean out the car and wipe down the DVD player - not sure we would be able to save that baby! Katie arrived, and I told her she might want to take EC and H back to my parents house, but EC insisted on going with us. She seemed fine, so I relented. Turns out she was fine - my guess is that it was car sickness - combination of sitting in the very back seat, looking down to watch a movie and going around and around and around in the parking deck. She was ready to eat again and play and laugh, so no virus!

I have cleaned, spayed, disinfected, Resolved, wiped, sprayed again my car 4 TIMES and it still smells bad - any ideas on how to get the smell out - I have leather seats, but some must have gotten on the carper under the seat or something. I need help!!!!

OH yeah, the cardiology appt. - The ped. cardiologist listened to his heart and he said he can hear what the other doctors are hearing, then he did an ultrasound and said he was perfectly normal. What they are hearing is nothing - because he is extremely thin, they can hear the heart SO WELL (because there is literally nothing between the stethoscope and the heart) that they think they are hearing a murmur. I trust him - does this sound right to any of you nurses or doctors??? Anyhow, Wilson did great and EC and Henderson were awesome too - though with the amount that Henderson crawled around on the floor, we are bound to have a virus of some kind now! Thanks to Katie, b/c even though they were all good, 3 children 4 and under in a small doctor's office is still a HANDFUL!!!!

Which ped. cardiologist did you see? We (Anna) see Dr. McMahon in B'ham and I know exactly what you're talking about going around and around in the parking deck - it can make anyone sick! I trust whatever they said - they are awesome! Mary Mac did that to me once before too. She was reading a book on the way to gymnastics and screamed just like EC did then "burp" all of over her book, car, self, etc. I had to stop at the gas station and get Sam to come meet me with towels because all I had was a jacket to clean up the mess! Oh that was not fun!!!Needless to say, we learned that she cannot read in the car (it must hereditary b/c all of Sam's family gets car sick reading)

if he did an echo, then you should be good to go. i know with both seth and AC, they both had newborn issues that resolved on their own. they were seen again at 4 months. and the echo we have (and i am certain they have in bham) traces all the blood through the heart in different colors so you are safe i am sure.

You are a trooper for being able to get through any disaster your children throw your way.
Keep up the good work!

We've had our "vomit in the car" episdodes too. I suggest sprinkling baking soda all over the carpet and then vacuuming it up... hopefully it will grab that oh so nasty vomit smell!! Can you keep the windows cracked for a couple days too? Also, I've sprayed the carseats and floors with Oust Surface & Air Sanitizer... there's one that's called "Clean Scent" and it smells like fresh laundry... I love it. Not too "lysol-y" smelling!

Oh no!!! Throw up in the car- that has to be the worst smell ever!!! I will be praying for his little heart and for you too! I am so glad you had your sister there to help you. Does Lori live there too?
How is she?

OH my...what a tough outing for you! That smell is ALWAYS horrid!! I have no idea how to get it out though. I am glad EC was ok and that everything seems normal for the heart check up!

There is never a dull moment in the life of a mom with 3 kids, huh?! EK did that throw up thing all over her carseat this past summer. It was pretty hard to get the smell out and every once in awhile I SILL get a whiff. Anyway, we rolled the windows down and let it air out ALL day in the sun. You could try cleaning up the carpet with a vinegar and water solution...that is what we did on the carseat and it seemed to work.

As far as the VSD goes, I would trust the doctors. Those Echo/ultrasounds are pretty accurate. Samuel had a VSD and we could always see it on the echo ultrasound. They are pretty clear and usually don't miss a thing. It is weird though that they think they are hearing something just because he is so skinny.

We've had the throw up incident in the car a few times...it's amazing how much it smells up the whole car. We used Fantastick OxyPower on the seatbelt. That seemed to help. We also put baking soda in a cup and left it in the car for a while. It deodorizes like magic. :) Hope it goes away soon!!

Anna is doing great. We don't have to go back until March unless she starts showing any crazy symptoms or problems. God is great and wonderful and has performed a miracle right before our eyes - we were facing certain surgery when she was an infant and now her little body has adapted to her heart condition and you would never now the difference! We just continue to pray that her body will continue this and we never have to have surgery! I need to do an update on our blog b/c several people have asked about her. Also, yes, I got a catalog and plan on ordering at least one thing - we are on a major budget this year!
